It was an honour to participate in the 80th anniversary of Vietnam Yun Yee Tong. I had little time with them this time but I managed to learn a lot about them. Vietnam Yun Yee Tong is directly linked to Shizu Jow Biu. Shifu Liu Ho Liang/Lau Hou Leong 刘浩良 was one of the first few disciples of Jow Biu (Along with other legendary folks like Lam Cheuk Woon/Chan Man Cheung, etc) and he was responsible for the Foshan Jiu Jiang Ying Yong Tang (九江英勇堂). When the Japanese invaded China, Shifu Liu was part of the resistance force and had to flee China for Vietnam eventually.

He arrived in Ho Chi Minh city and founded Yun Yee Tong Vietnam 越南仁义堂 in 1936. From various photos, it was evident that Shifu Liu was a very strong man and highly skilled. He propelled the troupe to great highs in Vietnam. Today his son Shifu Lau Kin Cheung is the official leader of the troupe but his son Shifu Lau Hon Fei is running the troupe. Shifu Lau is also highly skilled in Traditional Chinese healing. It was another interesting info for me, as the anniversary book says that Shizu Jow Lung was also skilled in chinese healing techniques (chinese chiropractic). One more outstanding skill is their qigong. Many of them are able to bend spears with their throats. Shifu Lau’s younger brother demonstrated playing a tune on his saxophone with 6 spears on his throat!

Incidentally Shifu Lau Kin Cheung is also a skill chinese physician in chiropractic in particular. We wonder if he had learnt it from Shifu Lau Hou Leong? Hopefully we will have a chance to interview Shifu Lau in the future and find out more.
