It is COVID19 year in 2020. We have been really quiet but not out of action!
Thanks to Daniel Ferguson who sent us this photo above, where he spent summer and spring of 72 with them. This was likely at Tin Hau Dan (Heavenly Mother Celebrations in May) of 1972.
From our research, Jowga started in the 1940s in Hong Kong, after a parade in honour of the British Queen. Back then the late Sifu Chan Kwai Chai, came to Hong Kong from Kau Kong (Fatt San).
It was said that he first started 2 clubs in Cheung Chau (长洲) and Peng Chau (坪洲) islands of HK. After which he was employed by the Fishery Association of Hong Kong to teach in Kennedy town.
Fortunately Sifu Chan passed away in the late 1940s in Hong Kong. In 1951, Chau Biu Si Zou reached Hong Kong, and eventually settled down in Kennedy town where he took over teaching at the Fishery club.
Through the years the club evolved through a few changes due to politics and other issues. Today the Chau Biu (Jow Biu) legacy is mainly survived by two brother troupes namely the Chong Oi Chau Biu Martial Arts Sports Association 中外周彪国术体育会 and Chau Biu Martial Arts Fellowship Association 周彪国术联谊会。 Both are still located in Kennedy Town.
