Malaysia Penang (Butterworth) Long Kun Grand Opening

Longkun Bingcheng

Many of the Jow Ga troupes in Malaysia and Singapore bears the word “Kun” 昆 and it has to do with Sifu Lee Kun 李昆 which brought Jow Ga to these 2 places. Lee Kun 李昆 from Fatt san Nam Hoi had originally learnt Jow Ga from Lam Cheuk Woon who was a disciple of Jow Hip. After a few years Sifu Lam left for Hong Kong and Lee Kun continued to learn Wong San Poi from his father. After that he joined the 45 Army and learned from 4 more masters.

As a result, schools from these 2 countries have another set of Kungfu named the Lok Hup Kuen 六合拳 which Lee Kun had invented based on the 6 styles he learnt. The basis was Jow Ga essentially. Sifu Lee Kun had left for Penang Malaysia after his army stint and there, he founded Yi Le 艺乐 and the art flourished. In his later years he moved to Singapore and founded the Singapore Sim San Loke Hup with the help of his sworn brother. Unfortunately he was already down with stroke and bed ridden during 1965 when Singapore Sim San was set up. He passed away a year after and today the troupe is helmed by his eldest son, Lee Kam Yuen.
