This was a video that took 2 years in the making. We attended 2 events, their 80th anniversary and Sifu Day celebrations cum Kuan Dei Dan in the following year. Sifu Lau Kin Cheung is a charismatic leader of Vietnam Jow Ga. They have come a long way and even developed their own Jowga variation. We did not manage to find out how those subtle differences came about though. Despite their amazing history and lineage, they too are facing an imminent threat of closure.

Times have changed and Vietnam is currently very caught up with modern high pole lion dancing. The influence from Malaysia is so strong that many old troupes there have abandoned their original Vietnamese music for the Malaysian Futthok style in order to compete internationally. It is even worst for kungfu, as many Vietnamese have no interest today.

The only bright spot, is the Vietnamese legacy is well preserved in Australia and somewhat in America. We can only hope, that a miracle would happen to flip the tide.
