It was my first visit to Malaysia’s Jowga after having knew them for years. I learnt that after Jowga entered Malaysia via sizou Lee Kun. He was an early disciple of the famed Lam Cheok Woon (HK) back in China. Sizou Lam Cheok Woon was a disciple of Jow Hip.

The interesting bit, is Lee Kun had also learnt 5 other martial arts which he combined into his unique blend of kungfu. Hence the difference in their forms from the rest of Jowga. We see his forms only in Malaysia and Singaporean Jowga lineage.

It was said that during it’s heydays there were many troupes. In the early 1960s, Sizou Lee Kun had to leave for Singapore due to some issues. Since then the original Yile association which he had taught at closed down in Penang. After which several of his disciples restarted Jowga in other troupes through the span of a few years. Today there are about 8 troupes that are still active.

JingLe is one of the troupes that restarted in early 1990s. Like all troupes they have had challenges of running the troupe financially and monetarily. They are very proud to have managed to celebrate their 27th anniversary recently after more than 20 years hiatus. We hope they will continue to flourish.
